Good Eye Line Fundamentals
One of the main things people comment about their putting game is how they have trouble aligning their putter to their intended target line and have trouble maintaining a consistent path in the putting swing.
Below, you can find some helpful tips for recognising what kind of eye line you may have and to know a little about how this plays an important role in putting.
A good way to check is to place an alignment mirror on the floor or putting green and check where your eyes are looking relative to your target line, or better yet, take a picture and look at your eye line.
Picture #1 (Eyes skewed left) and Picture #2 (Eyes skewed right)
Showing the eyes skewed to the right and left. This type of position could lead to the following:
| a. |
A putter face that looks like it might be aimed at different locations each time you line up for a putt |
| b. |
Poor path of the putter, this could lead to many factors affecting ball roll and distance control |
| c. |
Visually effecting the way you see the target line at address position |
| d. |
Poor and inconsistent feeling of contact on the putter face |
Picture #3 (Eyes Parallel)
Showing the eyes parallel to the target line, this will help with the following:
| a. |
Better putter path tendencies |
| b. |
Better ball roll/strike point on the putter face |
| c. |
Visually seeing the line of the putt better |
| d. |
Better putter face alignment at address and impact |
I believe all of us want to be a better putter but don't know exactly how to achieve this. By getting a better eye line you will put yourself in better positions to make a putt without changing your technique.
Remember putting plays almost 50% of the game, so why not seek easy, effective changing in this area in your practice schedule.
