| Hong Kong International Bowls Classic 2008
This year's International Classic Games will be held from 6th-14th December, at CCC and KBGC. The Single Games will be played on the 6th and 7th and in KBGC while the Pairs Games will be played at both CCC & KBGC from Monday to Saturday and the final will be played on Sunday at CCC.
This is the first time that Ladies' Pairs will be introduced to the game. Our Ladies' Team is being invited to participate in this historical event. Winnie Wai and Mercredi Yeung will pair up to represent USRC and they will be playing at KBGC during 8th-13th December and hopefully they can enter the final and play for the trophy at CCC on 14th December. Winnie is a National Champion and is a medalist in the World Bowls 2007 and Mercredi is also a National Champion and a member of the China Team. Together, they will be one of the favourite pairs in the event to challenge the international players.
Our Men's Team had a narrow miss to be promoted to Division 1 in the Premier League last year and therefore will miss this year's Classic Games. Work harder boys!
Those who are interested in watching the best players in the world playing this interesting game, may come to the venue, free of charge, to enjoy the games. There will also be a sale of bowling equipment at a discount on the spot. Do come and have fun, cheer our Ladies and watch our Annie, Suen, Jason, Mercredi and Jerry perform their umpire duties for the event.
Advanced Training Course
We have organised an Advanced Training Course for our bowlers who are interested in improving their skills and are prepared to play a better game as the 3rd and skip for our teams. We have the honour of having one of the Lawn Bowling Legends Mr. Oscar Adams, who is in town, to come and lecture for the course which will be held in November and December in the Club. Don't miss this chance, contact Annie as soon as possible to get enrolled if you haven't done so already.
Premier League Games
Our Men's Teams did not have much luck in their games. The Men's A Team had very competitive games in the Division 2 against several strong A teams. They had repeated unlucky losses to several less famous teams and could not beat the big names and are therefore just 3 points behind the top 8 teams. Will see them playing to be the Champion next season in the Division 3! The Men's B Team will be staying in their division and will certainly be more mature to strike more winning games home.
The Ladies' Teams are having a much better games despite the fact that several of our girls had engagements other than bowling during the season and in one game, our 13 years young member, Moriah Yau made her debut playing for the C Team in a Division 4 game. Our Ladies' A Team is one of the top 3 teams in Division 1 which almost got crowned Champion for the season. The C Team is comfortably staying in the middle of Division 4 while the B Team will be playing in Division 5 next season due to shortage of hands this season.
Once again, all members of USRC are welcomed to join us, sharing our joy and agony in playing this simple game of "rolling the dark ball to the white marble"!
Do come and have FUN!
