Congratulations to Ms. Winnie Wai (W-47)
The 1st Lady in Asia Pacific Championship

HAPPY NEW YEAR !

The Lawn Bowls Sub-Committee wishes everyone a prosperous New Year and Happy Bowling always!

Happy News

International Honour

Our 1st Lady Winnie Wai has won a Bronze Medal in Ladies Triples in the Asia Pacific Championship 2009in Kuala Lumpa and she had a wonderful time enjoying the game and the host city.

C.S.Suen is also having a successful performance in the Asian Lawn Bowls Championship held in Malaysia last month. He won a Silver Medal together with Stephen Chan in the Men’s Double event.

Thank you for the great effort of you guys that make this Hong Kong’s Best Kept Secret well known, Congratulations!

National Championship

Our Ladies have just won the Runners-Up of the National Fours Competition 2009, lost by less than 1 mm only in the extra end ( 19th ) to their long time rival KBGC ! The members of the team are Fanny Fernandes ( Skip ), Winnie Wai, Mercredi Yeung and Hana Ko. The teams used almost 4 hours to display the very close game in regulation and after 18 Ends they were TIED. All 8 players had demonstrated the true spirit of playing the very best of top quality Lawn Bowling, both in etiquette, accuracy and stamina. You are the star of this Final Day 2009. Congratulations to our Co-Champion Team (after 18 Ends) !

Our Ladies are also very good at In-Door games though we have not got any carpet bowling facilities. Mercredi Yeung and Phyllis Wong have defeated all entries but 6 in the In-Door Single this year and Phyllis managed to win herself a place in the Semi-Final. She lost only to the Winner, Fanny Kwok of HKFC which has the most beautiful In-Door facility. May be we should consider converting the “Golfing facility” in our club to a carpet bowling facility so that we can practice and have home green advantage in future.

League Games

We are having a very good start this winter. All our Men Teams A, B & C are having multiple win in their games. The big boys, Men’s A was having unbelievable 8-0, 6-2
& 8-0 wins over the top teams in their division, Shatin A, Taipo A and IRC A in the first 3 games and more winning is expected. The super skips of the team are Tony Tong, Henry Wai & C.S.Suen.

The Ladies are also having good scores in their tough games under the new competition format of 3 rinks in a team which does not favour small clubs like us. Fortunately our ladies work harder to build up themselves quickly for the game and they are now able to strike a draw against the big clubs including HKFC-A!

Our young ladies in the B team are having good lessons in this Winter League and they are struggling to prove that they are somebody in the bowling arena. Well done girls!
Best wishes for all the players that they can hold their winning wonders all through the year and always !

New Development

1, The club management have resolved to use several million of the club’s fund to conduct a major renovation of the bowling facilities, including a completely new storage hut and a new image of the area around the green.  The work is expected to start soon after the Winter League. Little inconvenience is expected during that time but the new face would certainly deserve the tolerance.

2, The Sub-Committee has resolved to accept the proposal of the captains to request all league game regular players must attend not less than 70% of the practice sessions. Ladies sessions at 7-9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Men at 7-9 p.m. on Thursdays. Those who are not able to attend must take leave from their captain or be prepared to sit QUIETLY as reserve of the coming games.

3, The Sub-Com is working on the new uniform of the coming year. Those who have good idea or resources, please come forward to give the Sub-Com some assistance.

4, There were some comment and conduct hanging around the green recently, some against the section, some against individuals. Some of them are helpful and some are not. We have made several attempts to satisfy those makers of the noise. Should we fail to avoid the illness that is affecting the section, we would have no hesitation to turn them away. Please post all suggestions to the Sub-Com directly.

Once again, Come Share the game with us.
We wish you all
HAPPY BOWLING ALWAYS !
