| Club Annual Championship
This year's Club annual championship will take place between December 2008 and January 2009. As in previous years, there will be five events: Men's singles and doubles, Ladies' singles and doubles together with mixed doubles. To make the Men's doubles more interesting and competitive, we are exploring the idea that men in the Club's B team cannot play with a partner from the same team. In other words, a player graded B must find a partner graded below B. We will see how this works and would like to hear your views and comments.
Social Tennis
There is a minor change in the Sunday Social Tennis hours. Instead of having two courts starting at different times, we now have both Court Three and Four reserved for Social Tennis between 3pm and 6pm. There are no changes in the Saturday social tennis timing.
Tennis Courts Booking and Guest Rules
There have been concerns that the tennis court booking system and the guest rules have been abused by a small minority of Members. As a result, a Tennis Action Group was formed and a meeting was held between the Club's committee members and the management in October. New measures have been proposed, discussed and agreed upon. Members will be informed by the Club of these new measures in the form of advertising blitz in November.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind all of us about the Club's guest rules. A Member cannot bring the same guests or friends to play tennis in our courts for more than three times a month. It is also our responsibility to inform the Reception the number of guests we are hosting and pay the guest fees accordingly before going onto the courts.
The objectives of the new court-booking system and the Club's guest rules are to ensure that Members' rights are enhanced and every Member has a fair chance of booking the tennis courts. Inevitably, some inconvenience may be caused, however, sometimes we all need to draw a line and strike a balance.
