Chinese Gecko
Gecko chinensis A small carnivorous lizard with a greyish-coloured body and dark transverse bars or mottling. It has a relatively large and flattened head and its tail has distinct brown or black bands. It feeds on various insects such as flies, mosquitoes and tiny moths. Like all geckos, it lacks eyelids; instead, the outer surface of the eyeball has a transparent membrane. Egg cases were spotted in a hollow tree near the children’s playground garden. The gecko will be commonly found in larger, older trees including the banyans which offer many hiding and egg laying crevices. |
