Ptyas mucosus The Common Rat Snake is a non-venomous snake that is most often sighted in urban areas. It is brown skinned on the upper side with distinct black crossbands on the posterior part of the body and on the tail. It has a rounded snout and large eyes. Rat snakes, though harmless to humans, are fast-moving, excitable snakes. Likely to be an irregular visitor searching for frogs, toads and rodents. Adult snakes can make a significant impact on rodent numbers if this harmless reptile is able to share public areas. |
