Japanese White-eye
Zosterops japonica The Japanese white-eye or mountain white-eye, is a small passerine (perching bird or songbird) in the white- eye family. As one of the native species of the Japanese islands, it has been depicted in Japanese art on numerous occasions, and historically was kept as a cage bird. It feeds on the nectaring flowers of trees and shrubs at the USRC and is likely to be a regular visitor to the gardens. White-eyes visit many nectaring flowers, assisting plant fertilization by transferring pollen as they feed. |
